STANDARD THREE
School executives will understand and act on the understanding of the important role a school’s culture contributes to the exemplary performance of the school. School executives must support and value the traditions, artifacts, symbols and positive values and norms of the school and community that result in a sense of identity and pride upon which to build a positive future. A school executive must be able to “reculture” the school if needed to align with school’s goals of improving student and adult learning and to infuse the work of the adults and students with passion, meaning and purpose. Cultural leadership implies understanding the school as the people in it each day, how they came to their current state, and how to connect with their traditions in order to move them forward to support the school’s efforts to achieve individual and collective goals.
3A. Focus on Collaborative Work Environment
The school executive understands and acts on the understanding of the positive role that a collaborative environment can play in the school’s culture.
Bus Driver Expectations
At the beginning of the year, I conducted a meeting for my bus drivers to address professionalism, driver expectations, distribute bus routes, seating charts, bus delays, emergencies, student conduct, and absences from work. By working with the team to set expectations and align systems, drivers are better able to communicate with one another and problem solve when changes or delays occur.

Black History Month
To promote cultural awareness I had the opportunity to spearhead the school's first Black History Month Initiative. The goal was to make it both fun and educational. I sent an email to the staff asking for thought partners. Together we were able to come up with some great events where students could express themselves with pride and become inspired at the same time. We also recognized Six students: Three winners from the Quiz bowl and three winners from the Art competition. Each winner received a ten dollar gift card to McDonald’s, Apple, or Amazon donated by the teachers. |

3C. Acknowledges Failures; Celebrates Accomplishments & Rewards
The school executive acknowledges failures and celebrates accomplishments of the school in order to define the identity, culture and performance of the school
COVID-19 Tweet
I use twitter as a form of communication for reaching out and getting information out quickly to my students and parents. This post highlights our failures as we navigate through COVID-19 to accommodate our students. It is a message asking for understanding and patience as we are trying to ensure that each student receives a quality education at this time and that we are here to support.

3D. Efficacy & Empowerment
The school executive develops a sense of efficacy and empowerment among staff which influences the school’s identity, culture and performance.
Staff Committee
I created a questionnaire addressing the interest of staff to the needs of the schools. Teachers were able to choose their top three committee choices. The administration team reviewed the desired choices, evaluated the talent in the building, and created the committee list to ensure the school’s overall success. By creating staff-led committees, teachers can feel more directly apart of creating change in the school and be empowered to take a more active role in leading change/being a part of the change effort.
